So You Think You Can Dance Season 5 - Episode 16 - The Top 10 Dancers

Hi there, and thanks for visiting Simple Man Entertainment once again. We're back to talk about last night's So You Think You Can Dance show, and boy was it a great show. The top 10 hit the stage, and I enjoyed every moment of the show.

Although the judges are not deciding who goes and who stays anymore, they were still there to offer their opinions. Of course, Nigel and Mary were there, and they were joined by Debbi Allen, a well known choreographer, actress, TV director and producer, and dance school owner. I always enjoy seeing her on the judging panel.

The show started off with a top 5 girls group Bollywood routine, which was choreographed by Nakul Deo Mahajan. It was a beautiful routine with traditional Indian style music and all the girls looked terrific, although for me it was Randi and Jeanine that really drew in my eyes. Nigel called it "fantastic," Mary called it "Bolly-wow," and Debbie dubbed them the "best top 5 ladies we've ever had." High praise for the ladies.

Dancing the Viennese Waltz, Evan and Kayla were up next. Kayla drew Evan out of the hat for this routine, and they were an interesting couple, with her being taller than him. They were choreographed by Tony Meredith and danced to "Kiss From a Rose" by Seal. It was lovely, and of course I loved the music. Nigel commented that it "looked fabulous" but Mary felt it was "not good enough," although she did say that Evan made the "lifts [look] effortless." Debbie commented to Evan that "you handled your big woman," calling Evan "Gene Kelly" and Kayla "white lightning."

Next Brandon hit the stage with his solo. It was an excellent solo, really showing off his style and his strength.

When Janette picked out of the hat for a new partner, she picked Ade, so it was Ade and Janette up next with a Hip Hop routine by Napoleon and Tabitha. They danced to " Love, Sex, Magic" by Ciara ft. Justin Timberlake. I really loved this routine, and felt that they did a great job - the tallest guy and the shortest girl. Nigel said "you've got funk" and Mary said now "that was funky." To Mary Janette was a "spicy hot tamale" and Ade was a "gentle giant." Debbie thought the routine was "mesmerizing" and gave them a big "Bravo!"

Randi took the stage next dancing her solo for the night. I really though it was beautiful. She was in the moment and I think she would have just kept on dancing if the music wouldn’t have stopped.

Kupono danced a solo next. It was unique and definitely interesting. However, from seeing his solo, I think he's in danger tonight when we get the results about who is going home this week.

Jeanine picked Jason to dance with, and I was excited to see this couple dance. Jason and Jeanine were doing a contemporary piece choreographed by 2nd Season's Travis Wall. They danced to "If it Kills Me" by Jason Mraz. What an excellent piece this was. It was incredibly performed and great enough that the judges were on their feet with a standing ovation. Nigel felt that they have "really become stars" and Mary too called them "stars" commenting that they just "keep growing." Mary even gave a silent scream…never heard that one before. Debbie commented that this show is "evangelizing dance" and felt that the two made a "magical pairing."

Melissa was next with her solo. Once again she did wonderful toe work. However, I felt that this solo wasn't quite as great as the last one she danced.

Evan was up next with his solo and I just loved it. He really showed why he was on the show in the first place. It was so fun to watch and the crowd loved it.

Kayla then danced her solo. I've been a bit disappointed in her dancing, especially her solos, but this one was pretty good. It was earthy and she spend a lot of time on the floor, but I felt it was good.

Randi and Kupono were paired together this week with a Pasa Doble choreographed by Tony Meredith. They danced to "Dies Irae" by Karl Jenkins. I wasn't too impressed with the routine, but felt that it was more Kupono's fault and not as much Randi's fault. They didn't live up to the choreography or the music. Nigel even stated that he was "not sure the dancing was a good as the choreography" and that the "chemistry was lost." Mary felt that the "song was more powerful" than they were and that they were "falling below" what was expected.

Ade then took the stage with a solo. He had some big moves and he definitely had the crowd. Was it his best, not really, but he does seem to be a crowd favorite.

Then Jeanine was up to dance her solo. As always, her solo was so beautiful. It was excellent, refined, yet sexy. There is a reason she is one of my favorites.

Jason then danced his solo for the night and his routine was very cool and bluesy.

Brandon and Melissa came on to dance a Broadway routine choreographed by Tyce Diorio. They danced to "Aquarius" from Hair (The New Broadway Cast). This definitely reflected the era that this musical came from with the routine. Nigel commented that it "brought back so many memories" and that it was "fantastic." Mary felt they were the "stars of the show" and Debbie said that "together it was seamless" and "a joy."

Janette was up with the last solo of the night. She definitely showed off her Miami roots with a funky routine that was smokin' hot.

Last for the night the top 5 guys did a routine together. It was an African dance that was choreographed by Jeffrey Page. It was such an interesting piece and you could tell that it was a difficult one to pull off. Nigel called it "well done," Mary "adored the dancing," and Debbie said to all, "I was proud of you.

The entire show was incredible. The dances were great and I found them all enjoyable. I can't wait to see what is going to happen next. Of course, we'll know soon. Come back tomorrow for a review of tonight's So You Think You Can Dance results show. Meanwhile enjoy a few of my favorite videos from last night's performance.

This was surely an excellent show this week. I also enjoyed the videos too, but when I came back again to view them they were gone. Dick Clark Productions sucks.
