Glad you're back at Simple Man Entertainment. Last night was a great show on So You Think You Can Dance. The top 16 danced, and it was interesting to see what happened. This week the viewers vote, so things will be a bit different.
Opening the show were Karen and Kevin, dancing a Hustle choreographed by Maria Torez. They danced to "Come to Me" by France Joli. I thought this dance was just okay, and really thought it should have been better, but they sure got a lot of love from the judges. I guess I wasn't there, but I thought the judges were wrong on this one.
Next up was one of my favorite couples - Ashleigh and Jakob. These two were dancing a Jazz routine choreographed by Mandy Moore. They dance to "Relax" by Frankie Goes to Hollywood. Great tune, but the way. I loved this routine and it was one of my three favorites for the night. They performed well, and I agreed with the judges that they have a great partnership and the routine was "on fire."
Peter and Pauline took the stage doing a Quick Step, otherwise known as the "Kiss of Death" on the show. It was choreographed by new choreographers, JT and Tomas. They danced to "Hey Baby (Shake Those Hula Hips)" by Big Kahuna and the Copa Cat Pack. The judges said it "wasn't great" but they "pulled it off." I agreed with Nigel that the characters that they were given actually helped them out. However, I think there's a chance they still end up in the bottom three.
Kathryn and Legacy were next with a Broadway routine, choreographed by Andy Blankenbeuhler, another new choreographer. They danced to "I Wanna Be Like You" by the Swinging Fireballs. The judges loved it and so did I. They called Legacy an "inspiration" and Nigel commented that this show turns "street dancers into complete dancers." I really believe that Legacy is going far in this show!
New couple this week, Victor and Channing, took the stage with a Contemporary routine by Stacy Tookey. They danced to "Be Be Your Love" by Rachel Yamagata. I was surprised that they did so well, and agreed that it did help to "reinvigorate" their partnership a bit. However, I also agreed with Nigel and Mary that I expected a bit more, especially after the phenomenal contemporary routine performed by Kathryn and Legacy last week. This was both of their styles, so it could have been even better.
Ryan and Ellenore danced a Hip Hop routine by Lil C. They danced to "Lost Boiz Anthem" by Tha J-Squad. This routine just "wasn't good at all" as the judges said. Adam thought Ryan had taken some strides, but seriously, I didn't like it at all. Although, in their defense, I don't think the costumes were helping them out. I think they're in danger, and all the judges agreed.
With a Salsa, Nathan and Mollee were up next. They were choreographed by Gustavo Vargas. They danced to "Quinbara" by Celia Cruz and Johnny Pacheco. This was another routine that was not good at all. It was called the "bad luck of the draw" by the judges, and they all agreed that this routine just exposed all of their weaknesses. I kind of think they could end up in the bottom three, but they do have a big fan base, so we'll see.
Last of all, Russell and Noelle took the stage with an Afro Jazz, choreographed by Sean Cheesman. They danced to the "Frog Dance" by Mickey Heart and Planet Drum. I loved this piece. These two definitely danced with joy and they were put on the "hot tamale train" by Mary. Nigel went as far to call Russell a "star of the season."
The show was great, but I saw some of my favorites really get tripped up. I'm anxious to see what happens tonight, and of course we'll be back tomorrow to let you know what happened in the So You Think You Can Dance results show.
Below are my three favorites from last night. Enjoy, and thanks for visiting Simple Man Entertainment.
