So You Think You Can Dance Season 6 Episode 12 - Top 18

Hi there, and welcome to Simple Man Entertainment. Last night the top 18 danced on So You Think You Can Dance, and it was a great show. Due to the World Series, the show only could air once this week, so again the judges were making the cuts at the end of the show. However, Cat Deely assured the audience that things would be back to normal next week, which means you can vote!!!

The show was packed, so let's get to it. First on the stage were Russell and Noelle. If you remember, last week Noelle didn't dance because she was hurt, but this week they were taking on a Jamal Sims (a new choreographer to the show who does a lot of the choreography for the Step Up movies) Hip Hop routine. They danced to "Move, Shake, Drop Remix" by Dj Laz, Flo Rida & Casely. It was a bit disappointing as the judges said, although Russell pulled it off a bit better than Noelle did.

Ashleigh and Jakob were up next with the Viennese Waltz, choreographed by Tony and Melanie. They danced to "At Last" by Etta James, and I thought that the dance was as beautiful as the song. They were called a "strong" "beautiful couple" and I totally agreed. These two were sure to be safe.

Let me take a moment to tell you a little why Ashleigh is one of my favorite dancers. I'm trying not to make these posts too long, but she is so inspiring I just have to talk about here for a minute. She's the wife of Ryan (they are both Latin dancers) and it's a miracle that this girl can walk, let alone dance. Ashleigh has overcome a three year illness and at one time was in a wheelchair. There was no way anyone thought she'd dance - but here she is. She is such an inspiration, which makes her one of my favorites this season. Thanks Ashleigh for showing us all you can overcome the odds to do whatever you want to if you have enough heart.

Now, back to the show. Next up were Bianca and Victor. They were dancing a Tyce routine that was supposed to have a southern gospel dance feel to it. Emphasis on "supposed" to… They danced to "Maybe God is Tryin' to Tell You Something" from the Color Purple Soundtrack. It was okay, but they didn't "get crazy" the way they should have. They weren't in character and left me and the judges disappointed.

Nathan and Mollee, resident cuties and the youngest two on the show, were up next with a Bollywood routine choreographed by Nakul. They danced to "Azeem Q Shean Shahenshah" from the Jodhea Akbar soundtrack. It was incredible. They have so much energy and were called "exciting" and "tremendous" by the judges, amid screams from Mary (big shocker). Loved them.

Channing and Phillip took the stage next with a Tony and Melanie Samba. They danced to "Maracatu Funk" by The Samba Squad. It was disappointing. The tricks looked horrible and I thought he was going to drop her. Apparently the judges agreed, saying they were "struggling" and I knew these two may be in trouble.

Next, Karen and Kevin were up with a Hip Hop routine choreographed by Napoleon and Tabitha, two of my favorite choreographers I might add. They danced to "Ice Cream Paint Job" by Dorrough, and it was awesome. They were both put in the "hot tamale train" by Mary, and I think they're going to stay there for awhile.

Kathryn and Legacy were up next. Have I mentioned that Legacy is one of my favorites? Oh yeah, I think I did. Lol. They were dancing a contemporary routine choreographed by Stacy Tookey, who came to the show from SYTYCD Canada last season. She's awesome by the way. They danced to "2-Steps Away" by Patti Labelle. I wasn't sure how Legacy was going to do in this style. After all he's a B-Boy - not much experience in contemporary. They NAILED it!!! It was my favorite routine of the night. Legacy was incredible and it was so touching it literally had me holding my breath. Absolutely beautiful. This couple is going places!

It was hard for me to pay attention much after that contemporary, but Peter and Pauline were up next. They both had lost partners last week, so it was their first week together. They were dancing a Jazz routine by Wade Robson. They danced to "Little Green Bag" by George Baker Selection. This was based on the idea of Van Gogh's painting "Starry Starry Night." They were supposed to be people who were taken out of the painting, and the imagery for the dance was incredible. It was called "controversial" but I thought it was pretty cool.

Last of all, Ryan and Ellenore were up to dance an Argentine Tango, which was choreographed by Miriam and Leonardo. They danced to "Violentango" by Astor Piazzola. It was unbelievable. They did an amazing job and they got a standing ovation from the judges, which doesn't happen that often.

At the end of the show, they named four dancers who were in danger and who had to dance for their life. The four in danger were no surprise. In danger were Noelle, Phillip, Victor, and Bianca.

After dancing for their lives, the judges made the cut. They cut Bianca and Phillip, both tap dancers, which was tough for them, but I believe they made the right choices. Let's hope the other tapper can keep it going for the tappers.

Tune in next week to Simple Man Entertainment and we'll be back with a look at the show and there should be a results show next week too, which we'll also cover. Until then, enjoy my favorite routine from last night.
